Chingu Korean Restaurant 친구 is a straightforward spot for those looking to enjoy authentic Korean home cooking in Richmond Hill. Positioned on Bayview Avenue, the restaurant draws in locals who appreciate generous portions and a no-fuss dining experience centered on classic Korean dishes like bibimbap, bulgogi, various stews, and seafood pancakes.

The atmosphere here leans toward casual and family-friendly, making it a solid choice for small gatherings or a comforting meal after a busy day. The space itself feels modest and unpretentious, fitting for a dining experience that focuses more on the food and less on decor. Service tends to be warm and attentive, with staff going out of their way to accommodate dietary needs, which makes it easy for diners with allergies or specific preferences to feel comfortable.

The menu offers a good mix of traditional Korean stew options such as soon tofu (soft tofu stew with seafood), various jeongol hot pots, and grilled dishes like kalbi ribs and spicy pork bulgogi. The combo meals provide an opportunity to sample multiple dishes without overwhelming choices, which is great for newcomers or those visiting with friends. Side dishes are generous and individually served, adding to the home-style vibe.

This spot is especially well-suited for those who enjoy hearty, warming meals such as pork bone soup or spicy stews. It works equally well for casual lunches or relaxed dinners where sharing several dishes with family or friends is part of the experience. The restaurant remains steady through the week and into the weekend but tends to feel at its best during quieter periods when the pace allows a more relaxed meal.

While prices are slightly above some neighboring eateries, the quality and portion sizes often satisfy visitors looking for a satisfying and authentic Korean meal without venturing into flashy or trendy territory. It's a place where you come for comfort and flavor rather than to make a scene.

Generous portions and great value. We got the combo for 2 (can select 2 from 10 options) and pork bone soup on the side. - Pork bone soup was lighter than I’m used to (threw the kimchi side dish in and it was *chef’s kiss*) but the pork was incredibly tender and fresh. - chicken katsu had a good right amount of crunch; good batter to meat ratio. - haven’t tried the bibimbap yet (overestimated our hunger) but it looked great. Likes that the purple rice didn’t taste too grainy. Will be trying again!

Lovely restaurant that we stumbled upon a few weeks ago. We've been here twice so far and each time had a great experience. Special shoutout to the pork bone soup which my husband could not stop raving about. The waitress was so kind to our family, going above and beyond the definition of great customer service. Will definitely become a regular going forward.

They were great in accommodating my gluten allergy. I ordered the Yookgae Jang. Shredded beef spicy soup with sweet potato noodles. There is no soybean paste or soy sauce in it. It was very good!

Lovely little Korean restaurant serving a simple homey menu. They offer typical dishes and soups as well as BBQ and alcohol. They also have some good combos. Their prices are a bit higher than your average around the area but their flavours are on point. They're also generous with the side dishes, each person got their own serving. Service was good. There were two single stall washrooms. They did however mention that they're closed at 9pm when Google says 10pm so make sure you call in advance.

Jan 11/20 Another nice visit. May 4/19 Back again and simply love this place. First review They have some great tasting dishes. First time here and we were impressed with the quality of the food and pricing. Portion size is fine and service was very good. We will be back for sure as we found a special spot for that Korean craving.
